Craig Mayer, DDS

Dr. Mayer was born in Bismarck, North Dakota and was the oldest of four children. At age ten, his family moved to Edina, Minnesota where he graduated from Edina High School in 1967. Having wanted to be a dentist since age 9, he attended undergraduate college at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa before matriculating at Northwestern Dental School in Chicago. Dr. Mayer graduated from Northwestern University in 1975, with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and high honors.

After graduating from Northwestern Dental School, he moved back to Minneapolis where he practiced in the Medical Arts Building for eleven years. Dr. Mayer, along with his wife Patti and their two children, Michelle and Natalie, moved to Fort Myers in December of 1986. He started practicing in Lehigh Acres in 1987.

Dr. Mayer attends many continuing education courses including L.D. Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education. He is a member of the American Dental Association, Florida Dental Association, West Coast Dental Association, Lee County Dental Society, Academy of General Dentistry, Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce, and Labelle Chamber of Commerce. He is currently involved with a local dental study club that meets monthly and reviews advanced periodontal, implant, and restorative cases.

Dr. Mayer and his family have attended McGregor Baptist Church where he has served as an adult Sunday school teacher since 1988. He has also served on many McGregor Baptist Church committees, as well as playing trombone in the church orchestra. His interests include playing trombone in other groups such as McGregor Big Band Orchestra, Bonita Springs Community Concert Band, Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra, and the Sousa National Community Band where he plays the euphonium. His other hobbies include sports of all kinds and flying airplanes. He has flown airplanes since 1975.

Dr. Mayer is also a proud corporate sponsor of local high school sports teams as well as many other community organizations.

Dr. Mayer’s oldest daughter, Michelle, graduated from Nova Southeastern Dental School in 2008. She is currently doing a two year residency program at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in Pedodontics with the plans of coming back to the Fort Myers area to practice children’s dentistry. She spent the last 10 years in the Navy, is now on reserve, and has been selected to be a Commander.

Dr. Mayer’s other daughter, Natalie, currently lives in Huntsville, Alabama with her husband, Nate, and four children ages 3-9. She is a full-time housewife and mother.

Dr. Mayer has been married to Patti since 1978 and are both active together in their local church.

Dr. Mayer is also a certified NRA pistol and home defense instructor, presenting classes on gun safety and concealed weapons carry for a permit. He enjoys trap and skeet shooting as well as has been known to fish in the back bay area.
